Two Ways To Prevent Drunk Driving After A Bachelor/Bachelorette Party

by Jose Williamson

It's customary to celebrate the bride's or groom's remaining days as a single person with a bachelor or bachelorette party. The problem is that people tend to ingest copious amounts of alcohol at these events and end up driving while intoxicated. To avoid this and the consequences associated with operating a vehicle while under the influence, here are two tips for keeping people from driving drunk.

Rent a Party Van

If the bachelor party takes place at a restaurant, night club, or other venue that doesn't' involve your house, possibly your best option is to rent a party van that will transport you from place to place. There are several benefits to going this route. It ensures that everyone remains together throughout the night and that no one gets lost on their way to the venue. People will save money on gas and wear and tear on their own vehicles. Lastly, guests can drink as much as they want without worrying about getting home safely.

It's important, though, to determine how people will get to and from the van. You can have the van pick up and drop off people at their individual residences so they don't have to drive anywhere. However, some companies may charge extra for multiple pickup/drop off points, so check whether this is the case before settling on this option. The other choice is to have everyone meet at one person's house and spend the night when the party ends. This ensures that people sober up before they get behind the wheel of their vehicles.

Hold the Event at a Place with Lodging Available

The other option is to have the bachelor party at a place where there is lodging available onsite or within walking distance. For instance, you can have the party at a hotel so people can simply walk to their rooms once the event ends instead of trying to find a way home. This is a good option for bachelor/bachelorette parties held in popular destinations, such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City. However, any place where the entertainment and hotels are in close proximity with each other will do.

Some hotels will let people park their vehicles on site overnight if you rent a banquet room from them. If people don't want to stay in the hotel, you can arrange to have a van service pick them up and take them home at the end of the night. These people can then return in the morning to pick up their vehicles when they're sober.
